Happy Monday

Thank you for being here in the Moon Shed. I reached Substack Bestseller status yesterday. I put so much thought into what I do here on Substack, so I am giving myself a pat on the back, yet like with everything, I didn’t do it completely alone. So thank you for the comments, shares, likes, recommendations and those little DMS telling me you enjoy what I do. I really appreciate your support.

Today is day one of learn tarot in seven days from scratch. I created this for two reasons.

Firstly, tarot became a big part of my life in my early 40s. Tarot helps me sort my head out on , find creativity and connects me with my inner life almost every single day. I wanted to create a short ‘course’ for beginners to help you lean into the magic too, especially as so many of you who read the Moon Shed are going through the change of midlife.

Secondly, I noticed that some of the women joining the Moon Shed were asking me questions about how to start a tarot practice. I wanted to go back to basics to help them out.

There are countless ways to use the cards. Unlike me, some people like to predict the future with the tarot and who am I to say that’s not possible? I like to keep an open mind these days.

However, the way I use tarot isn't predictive, its more for self reflection, self care and creativity. For joy and nourishment. I do believe every card holds medicine. Sometimes the medicine is sweet, sometimes bitter, but the tarot has never bought me anything than support for many years now.

The next seven days are designed to form a foundation of your tarot journey. In reality tarot is a tool of endless possibility and you're always a student but this will help you towards a nourishing tarot journaling practice at least.

Join me today and if finances are a barrier I have two very low cost annual memberships if you email me on info@themoonshedtarot.co.uk. I'd like to help you out no questions asked.

Before I dive in, if this is your first meeting with a deck or if you fancy pulling some cards I suggest a small ritual to get you into the spirit of things.

Ritual for tarot beginnings

  • Find a comfortable and quiet spot, put on some music you find inspiring and light a candle. I always enjoy having a hot drink with me when I draw cards.

  • Close your eyes and take a few conscious breaths to centre yourself a little. Feel your feet on the ground, your sitting bones on your seat and remember to pull cards like nobody is watching., well, because nobody is.

  • Take your deck in your lap or to your heart or to your gut or simply place your hands on it. Whatever feels right. Just make an intention for a few moments. Ask yourself how you would like to work with the cards today and make the intention to do that. Perhaps you could make the intention to make the cards a self care practice or a way to connect with your inner life. Maybe make an intention to be open hearted and open minded.

  • This only needs to take a few moments but people can get in a tiz woz when learning tarot. A caring intention will be a reminder to take it slowly and surely
