The seven of cups. Getting to know the fabric of your emotions
Guidance, journal prompts and a tarot spread plus a bonus tip for beginners
Hello you
I hope you are doing OK!
I had a rare day off alone with my husband yesterday.
We walked over the Gog Magog near Cambridge and I enjoyed seeing rosehips, mugwort, an ancient barrow, crows, blue sky and dogs barking, dizzily waiting for their owners to throw them a stick. Dogs make me chuckle.
I’ll also mention that the thick slab of post walk carrot cake from the Stapleford Granary was not too shoddy either.
Simple pleasures!
Card of the week commencing 28th November 2022
Emerging from my bed this morning with a cough and cold I opted for “the gentle tarot” by Mari in the sky.
Wrapped in my dressing gown curled up on the sofa I pulled the seven of cups.
Sometimes, the tarot can be a bit of a joker and this morning its making the point rather cheekily that this girl in the card is me desparately signalling towards the kitchen in the hope that someone in my household will bring a coffee. Take a look at the card.
FYI nobody did.
The invitation from the seven of cups.
Sevens are a friendly reminder to look deeper within ourselves. To step back and evaluate.
If meditation, journalling and reflection were a number that number would be seven I'm sure.
Sevens are a necessary investigative pause in an ongoing process in your life. Usually one you’ve already come quite a long way with.
Nearly all of our November cards have had this nudge to stop and think more deeply and its our second seven so take note.
The seven of cups being the element of water takes us deeper into the heart or our emotional life.
You can think of the cups energy as the proverbial heart, and whatever is in the cup as the nourishment.
There are many interpretations of this card. I really like Lindsay Mack's. She says the seven of cups is allowing ourselves to sit back and have the space to dream about what our heart wants without feeling the pressure of having to take any action or be decisive and that ways forward in our lives will come from that space.
A less traditional interpretation
My less traditional interpretation of the card is that asks you to investigate the range of emotions you meet within yourself from day to day.
In a mere 24 hours you can move from delight to tears or from anxiety to laughter. You can be bored one minute then overwhelmed with the to do list the next. Just me?
It reminds me of the animation “inside out” where the girl lives with different characters in her head.
The invitation then is to notice the texture of our emotional life without judging it or fixing ourselves to it. The seven of cups is simply a time to get to know our emotions more fully, to know ourselves with no demands on changing anything at all.
Cups is about love
Cups energy is an energy of love and compassion, so not only do we become aware of our emotions but we love them.
Do you see the unidentifiable brown blob in one of the cups on our card today. We even get to love that. We love the crap parts.
What’s warming you?
The girl in our card is pointing to the fire though isn't she. Her whole face is lit up by the flames and she’s drawn towards the warmth.
I like to think this is a reminder we are in the optimistic fire season of Sagittarius. What's warming us?
Having this space to get to know the fabric of our being and allowing our emotions to be as they are, gives us the chance to understand what really lights us up and where we are intuitively drawn.
This is an echo of our previous cards the high priestess and the queen of wands.
This week
So this week don't feel the pressure of decision making. Get to know your dreams and feelings and ups and downs as if they were friends making space for forward momentum to be organic and and heart felt. No rushing.
Journal Prompts and reflections for the seven of cups
Take 10 minutes out of your day. Stop and notice how you are feeling and where your mind goes. Write it down.
What do you notice?
What wants your attention more fully?
Are you able to love all your emotions or do you push some away? Write it down
Is there anything lighting you up?
2 card spread
I've become a bit of a fan of the simplicity of a two card spread recently so here’s one for you to try.
Feel free to share it on your social media platforms or with friends. I’d love to grow my readership and spreading the word and sharing my content really helps.
If you enjoy my writing spread the word.
Tarot tip
Next time you pull a card go for a walk with it and reflect on its meaning. Movement can help stimulate your more intuitive side.
Wishing you a heartfelt week.
